Property Tax/Rent Rebate deadline extended
May constituent data announced by DeWeese
HARRISBURG, June 9 – The deadline for eligible homeowners and renters to submit their Property Tax/Rent Rebate applications has been extended to Dec. 31, according to state Rep. Bill DeWeese.
DeWeese said his constituent services offices can assist with completing applications and tracking the status of rebates. DeWeese also said his constituent service offices provided constituent assistance on more than 1,285 occasions in May, bringing the total this year to 7,266.
In addition to the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program, a few of the other constituent topics addressed in May include:
· Change of address with PennDOT
· Criminal background checks
· Driver’s license renewals
The Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program provides rebates for property taxes or rent paid in 2008. The maximum rebate a homeowner or renter can receive is $650. Rebates are available to eligible Pennsylvanians who are 65 or older, widows and widowers 50 or older, and people 18 or older who have disabilities. The income limit for these Pennsylvanians is $35,000 for homeowners and $15,000 for renters, excluding half of their Social Security income.
Once their form is submitted, applicants can check on the status of their rebate by visiting the PTRR Web site. In order to check their claim, people will need their Social Security number, rebate amount, claim year and date of birth. Rebate checks will not be sent out until after July 1.
