Hatfield Ferry emissions project gets state assistance

HARRISBURG, June 17 – The Hatfield Ferry Power Station will be able to proceed with an emissions control project thanks to $260 million in state bonds approved today by the Pennsylvania Economic Development Financing Authority, announced state Rep. Bill DeWeese.

"This project will enable Allegheny Energy Supply Company to continue to burn high sulfur coal while reducing emissions 98 to 99 percent by installing scrubbers at the Hatfield Ferry facility. This is a benefit to the company, the community and the environment," DeWeese said.

The project is expected to create 36 jobs at the Monongahela Township, Greene County location.

The bond funding was requested by the Greene County Industrial Development Authority and will be issued by PEDFA.
