Mahoney outlines House Democratic agenda in 2008
HARRISBURG, Jan. 14 – State Rep. Tim Mahoney, D-Fayette, said House Democrats have proposed an aggressive legislative priority list that would improve the state’s open records law, lower property taxes, provide access to affordable health care to all people and reduce the state’s dependence on foreign oil in 2008.
"We have a lot of good things on our horizon," Mahoney said. "House Democrats are working on issues affecting the people of Pennsylvania. We want to make our citizens’ quality of life better and we are working toward doing just that.”
At a state Capitol news conference, House Democrats discussed several key issues they want to act on this spring, including enacting a smoke-free workplace law and an aggressive energy package that would help residents and businesses save money and reduce the state’s reliance on foreign oil by investing in alternative and cleaner energy sources.
In addition, House Democrats are continuing to work on a health-care plan that would expand access to affordable health care to all Pennsylvanians.
“We are not going to pass our proposals overnight; it will take some time in the coming weeks,” Mahoney said. “I am optimistic that House Democrats will continue to promote meaningful legislation that will improve our constituents’ well-being."
Mahoney represents the 51st Legislative District. The Fayette County lawmaker is the lead freshman Democrat on Pennsylvania’s open records bill.
