Mahoney announces $254,200 to 14 volunteer fire and rescue companies
HARRISBURG, Jan. 15 – State Rep. Tim Mahoney, D-Fayette, said 14 volunteer fire and rescue companies in the 51st Legislative District will receive a total of $254,200 in state grants from the Commonwealth’s Volunteer Fire Department and Volunteer Ambulance Company Grant Program.
The grant program helps volunteer fire and ambulance organizations pay for equipment, construction or repair of facilities, training, or debt reduction.
Mahoney said the funding is a result of legislation he co-sponsored that created a $25 million annual fund to provide grants of up to $15,000 to eligible fire companies and $10,000 to eligible ambulance companies in Pennsylvania.
“Many people living in Pennsylvania’s municipalities rely on volunteer fire and rescue squads, so it's important that we ensure these organizations have the funding and tools they need to do the job,” Mahoney said. “Volunteer fire and rescue organizations not only save lives and property, but they also save taxpayers money, so this grant program is a great investment.”
The Fayette County lawmaker is member of the House Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee.
