Mahoney comments on 2008-09 state budget
HARRISBURG, Feb. 5 – State Rep. Tim Mahoney, D-Fayette, released the following statement on the $28.3 billion 2008-09 state budget proposal unveiled by Gov. Ed Rendell today:
"It's a very aggressive but responsible state budget. It's focused on steps Pennsylvania needs to take now to protect residents and our economy from the national downturn, and also on initiatives that can keep us competitive well into the future."
"I am happy to see that there is new funding for critical transportation infrastructure projects, including repairs on many structurally deficient bridges in the area.
"I am optimistic because lower-income families of western Pennsylvania would benefit from the $400 tax rebates, and all Pennsylvanians would benefit from the job creation and retention initiatives, and the increased funding for our children's education, proposed in the budget."
