Connellsville Municipal Authority to receive $2.6 million loan
for sewer system upgrades
HARRISBURG, July 21 – State Rep. Deberah Kula, D-Fayette/Westmoreland, announced that a low-interest loan of $2.6 million has been awarded to the Connellsville Municipal Authority through the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority, or Pennvest.
The loan will finance the installation of new storm sewers that will reduce wet weather flows from the authority's combined sewer system into the Youghiogheny River, Mounts Creek and Opossum Run. The existing system serves about 2,970 customers and the project is expected to create 30 construction-related jobs.
"This loan will help the Connellsville Municipal Authority improve its sewer system so that it can reduce overflow in our rivers and creeks," Kula said.
An independent agency of the Commonwealth, Pennvest funds sewer, storm water and drinking water projects statewide through federal grants and loans to improve the environment and public health. Projects funded by Pennvest also improve opportunities for economic growth and create jobs for Pennsylvania's workers.
