Petrarca announces $34,223 in environmental grants
HARRISBURG, Feb. 11 – State Rep. Joe Petrarca, D-Westmoreland/Armstrong, announced that $34,223 in state environmental grants were recently awarded locally.
Leechburg borough in Armstrong County received a recycling performance grant of $14,070 based on the 472.7 tons of material recycled in 2006 and the municipality’s population.
Westmoreland Cleanways in Westmoreland County was awarded $20,153 to reimburse 50 percent of the costs for developing and operating a household hazardous waste collection event held at the county fairgrounds in September 2007.
Pennsylvania’s recycling industry includes more than 3,240 recycling and reuse businesses and generates $18.4 billion in gross annual sales. It provides jobs for more than 81,000 people. More information about Pennsylvania’s recycling efforts is available online at www.depweb.state.pa.us.
