Petrarca: Armstrong County receives $23,248 recycling grant
HARRISBURG, March 4 – State Rep. Joe Petrarca, D-Westmoreland/Armstrong, announced that Armstrong County was recently awarded a $23,248 state recycling performance grant.
The grants are awarded as incentives for communities to increase their recycling rates and contribute to the goal of improving recycling participation statewide.
The grant amount was based on the 2,651 tons recycled in 2006 and the county’s population.
Petrarca said recycling contributes to the economy. Across Pennsylvania, recycling is a $23.4 billion industry. It generates $18.4 billion in sales and $305 million in state taxes annually, and employs more than 81,000 people.
