Petrarca announces $18,045 recycling grant for Westmoreland County

HARRISBURG, May 14 – State Rep. Joe Petrarca, D-Westmoreland/Armstrong, announced that Westmoreland County will receive an $18,045 state recycling grant.

The grant will reimburse the county for half of its recycling coordinator’s eligible salary and expenses. The state grant ensures that the county's recycling efforts are maintained and improved while saving local taxpayers money.

Petrarca said recycling in the county also contributes to the local economy. Across Pennsylvania, recycling is a $23.4 billion industry. It generates $18.4 billion in sales and $305 million in state taxes annually, and employs more than 81,000 people.

Pennsylvania’s County Recycling Coordinator Grant Program was created by the General Assembly in 1988.
