Grant awarded to Derry Township
HARRISBURG, May 25 – State Rep. Joseph Petrarca, D-Westmoreland/Armstrong, announced today that Derry Township, Westmoreland County will receive a grant of $902 from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
Petrarca said the funds will be used for resolution of existing sewage disposal problems, provide for the future sewage disposal needs of new land development and provide for the future sewage disposal needs of the municipality.
"This grant will help our community continue safe and proper sewage management," Petrarca said. "Having a clean and safe water supply will only lead to a healthier environment."
The grant, which was created under a 1996 sewage enforcement law, will reimburse 42.5 percent of the township’s cost of updating and revising its sewage plan. Under the Pennsylvania Sewage Facilities Act, reimbursement payments are made in an amount equal to no more than one-half of the eligible expenses.
