Petrarca announces $400,000 loan for sewer reconstruction in West Leechburg

HARRISBURG, July 15 – State Rep. Joe Petrarca, D-Westmoreland/Armstrong, announced that West Leechburg borough will receive a $400,000 loan from the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority to finance the reconstruction of the borough’s current sewer system.

The Hillville area of West Leechburg is served by a combined sewer system that currently discharges untreated sewage during wet weather into the Kiskiminetas River. The low-interest, 20-year loan will be used to install 5,000 feet of sanitary sewer, 1,200 linear feet of storm sewers and the conversion of the existing sewer lines into storm sewers.

"This project will eliminate the health hazards that can occur from untreated wastewater," Petrarca said.

An independent state agency, Pennvest helps to finance sewer, storm water and drinking water projects to improve the environment and public health. Projects funded by Pennvest also improve opportunities for economic growth and create jobs for Pennsylvania workers.
