Petrarca announces $100,000 in state funding for local fire company
HARRISBURG, Sept. 8 – State Rep. Joe Petrarca, D-Westmoreland/Armstrong, announced that the New Alexandria Volunteer Fire Co. has been awarded a $100,000 loan through the state Fire Commissioner's Office. The low-interest loan will be used to purchase a new pumper/tanker.
"Up-to-date equipment is a tremendous asset in fighting fires safely and successfully," Petrarca said. "The new pumper truck will help neutralize the threat of fire in the areas served by the New Alexandria department."
The loan was provided through the state's Volunteer Loan Assistance Program, which provides loans at a fixed 2 percent interest rate to volunteer fire, ambulance and rescue companies for the acquisition, rehabilitation or improvement of facilities and equipment.
The Office of the State Fire Commissioner helps meet training, operational and informational needs of the Commonwealth's 2,400 fire departments.
