State launches Web site for non-civil service job applicants

HARRISBURG, Dec. 10 – State Rep. Joe Petrarca, D-Westmoreland/Armstrong, today said effective immediately the state has made changes to the application process for non-civil service jobs.

Petrarca said applicants will now apply for state non-civil service jobs online at www.employment.pa.gov. Applicants will provide contact information and work history, and will select the type of job they want to apply for. He said this new system is expected to streamline the process.

"We live in a digital age, and the previous practice of accepting only hard-copy resumes is inefficient and no longer cost effective," Petrarca said. "This new Web site simplifies the application process. In just 20 to 40 minutes people can apply for a job and will receive immediate acknowledgement that their application is being processed."

Petrarca said the Web site gives applicants an opportunity to provide more detailed information about qualifications and work history and eliminates copying and mailing costs. He also said the Web site offers the convenience of 24/7 access to job listings and applications.

For those without access to a computer, the Web site can be accessed at most public libraries and local PA CareerLink sites. The Career Link office in Armstrong County is located at 77 Glade Drive in Kittanning. There are two Career Link locations in Westmoreland County: 1150 Fifth Ave. in New Kensington and 151 Pavilion Lane in Youngwood.
