Penn-Trafford receiving more than $2.3 million in ARRA funds

HARRISBURG, Jan. 27 – More than $2.3 million in federal funding through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act will help Penn-Trafford School District preserve and improve educational offerings and services for students, according to state Rep. James E. Casorio Jr., D-Westmoreland.

In its latest report to Pennsylvania residents, the state said the $2.33 million in federal funding being provided to Penn-Trafford School District through the economic stimulus package includes nearly $688,000 for the district's special education programs and support for low-income students, as well as $1.6 million for basic education.

"The federal money for basic education will allow the state to increase its funding level for the Penn-Trafford School District by an additional $352,000," Casorio said.

Casorio said Pennsylvania is expected eventually to receive as much as $2.5 billion in education funding through ARRA.

"That money will help boost educational achievement and offerings at every level – from preschool and elementary grades through post-secondary levels and continuing education for adults," he said. "Education will be a priority for the new jobs that are being created. This federal funding will help to make sure our children and our workers in this region are prepared to take those jobs, and that businesses are attracted by a work force that can do the jobs they need done."

Casorio said ARRA eventually will provide more than $26 billion in federal funding to Pennsylvania across many areas, including transportation, health care, public safety, economic development and education.

The funding will help create jobs, maintain programs and services, and ensure that Pennsylvania's infrastructure and residents are prepared for new growth, he said.
