Westmoreland County to receive grant for recycling coordinator
HARRISBURG, May 12 – State Rep. James E. Casorio Jr., D-Westmoreland, announced today that Westmoreland County will receive a state recycling grant for $18,045.
Casorio said the state grant will reimburse the county for half the cost of its county recycling coordinator’s eligible salary and expenses. The coordinator works with local officials to develop, implement, and monitor local recycling programs in the county.
Casorio said recycling has a significant environmental and economic impact in Westmoreland County and across the state. Recycling currently is a $23.4 billion industry in Pennsylvania. It generates about $18.4 billion in sales and $305 million in state taxes annually, and employs more than 81,000 people.
Pennsylvania’s County Recycling Coordinator Grant Program was created by the General Assembly in 1988.
