Bradford reacts to governor's budget address
HARRISBURG, Feb. 9 – State Rep. Matt Bradford, D-Montgomery, today released the following statement in response to Gov. Ed Rendell's 2010-11 budget address to the state legislature:
"The governor outlined the various economic challenges we as legislators will face going into the next fiscal year and beyond. Obviously, it is going to take a lot of work and a strong bipartisan effort, but I think we have an obligation to take on the challenges that confront us as a Commonwealth. Additionally, I think the governor is to be applauded for his confirmed commitment to education.
"On a personal note, I'm pleased that the governor noted my work sharing legislation, House Bill 2160, as one of his legislative priorities that he would like to see passed this year. My proposal offers an innovative way to prevent increases in Pennsylvania's unemployment rates, and, working with the governor, I will push for its passage.
"House Bill 2160, which is supported by both business and labor, would provide an alternative to increased unemployment by permitting employers to supplement payroll with state unemployment compensation, thereby preserving full-time jobs and benefits and mitigating the impact to the unemployment compensation fund."
