Hundreds have already signed up to participate in WWII recognition ceremony; deadline to register April 15
HARRISBURG, April 8 -- State Rep. Edward Wojnaroski Sr. said the deadline is approaching for World War II veterans to sign up for the upcoming honor ceremony planned for next month in Cambria County.
In May, the Cambria County legislative delegation, in conjunction with the Conemaugh Valley Veterans, is hosting a special ceremony to honor the local veterans of World War II. Hundreds of veterans have already registered for the event, but the legislators want to make sure every veteran is recognized.
"We are asking all Cambria County WWII veterans who have not yet signed up, to do so by Tuesday, April 15," Wojnaroski said. "It's important for us to know how many veterans will be attending so we can properly honor each and every one."
To participate in the event, World War II veterans living in Cambria County must fill out a special form, which can be obtained from either Wojnaroski's office or from the local offices of Reps. Gary Haluska and Tom Yewcic, and Sen. John Wozniak. They may be reached by calling 536-9818 (Wojnaroski), 675-8939 (Haluska); 536-8400 (Yewcic); or 266-2277 (Wozniak).
The special event is open to the public and will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 18 in the Cambria County War Memorial. Members of the public do not need to RSVP.
"My colleagues and I want to put on an event that is worthy of our veterans' sacrifice and service to this country, and we hope that the public will attend to help us honor them," Wojnaroski said.
