Wojnaroski reminder: deadline approaching for Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program
HARRISBURG, Nov. 19 – State Rep. Edward Wojnaroski Sr., D-Cambria, is reminding local residents that the deadline to apply for this year's Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program is Dec. 31.
The Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program offers a rebate to qualified seniors and certain other residents on their property taxes or rent paid in 2006. The program is funded by the state lottery, not tax dollars.
"More rebates are being offered this year because of the expanded eligibility, so even if you didn't think you qualified for the program before, you might now,” Wojnaroski said. "Call or stop by my office to learn more."
Under the expanded program eligibility guidelines, household income for homeowners cannot exceed $35,000. The eligibility limit for renters is $15,000. Wojnaroski also reminded applicants that they must include only half of their Social Security, Supplemental Security Income, or federal Railroad Retirement Tier 1 benefits when calculating eligibility, which means that some people could earn even more than the maximum limit and still qualify for a rebate.
Both homeowners and renters could earn a maximum rebate of up to $650. To qualify, residents must be 65 or older, a widow or widower 50 or older, or 18 or older with a permanent disability.
Last year’s participants should have already received this year's application in the mail; people who have not applied before or who need help with their applications should contact Wojnaroski's constituent service office at 413 Main St., Johnstown. The phone number is 814-536-9818.
