Burns to host seminar on student financial aid
HARRISBURG, Feb. 9 – State Rep. Frank Burns will host a seminar on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid at 7 p.m. Feb. 16 in the auditorium of Central Cambria High School, 208 Schoolhouse Road, Ebensburg.
The seminar is open to all parents of high school seniors who are applying for college and live in the 72nd Legislative District.
Burns said that information from the FAFSA is used to determine eligibility for federal grants, the Pennsylvania State Grant program, scholarships, reduced-cost federal loans, work-study programs, and many school-based scholarships and financial aid programs. While the deadline to submit the FAFSA for most students seeking a State Grant is May 1, individual schools and scholarship programs often have earlier application deadlines.
Students and families can find more information about the FAFSA, as well as overviews, preparation worksheets and the online application, at www.PHEAA.org/FAFSA. The Web site also offers a list of information that will be needed in order to submit a complete application.
The 72nd Legislative District includes part of Cambria County, including Blacklick, Cambria, East Taylor, Jackson, Lower Yoder, Middle Taylor, Upper Yoder and West Taylor townships, and the boroughs of Ebensburg, Nanty Glo, Scalp Level and Vintondale. It also includes part of Somerset County, including Conemaugh, Jenner, Ogle, Paint, Quemahoning and Shade townships, and the boroughs of Benson, Boswell, Central City, Hooversville, Paint, Stoystown and Windber.
