To the editor:
I am writing to encourage members of the public to comment on a proposed land swap between Jackson Township and the state Bureau of Forestry.
Residents have until Aug. 17 to make comments.
Jackson would like to convey 175 acres it owns in Jackson and East Wheatfield townships to the state in exchange for 90 acres of state forest land north of Route 22. The values of the land are considered equal on each side of the swap.
Jackson is seeking the exchange in order to build a $1.5 million, 150-acre business park on the property to attract new industry. I fully support this project because it will create jobs in our area and create revenues necessary to keeping property taxes low.
I support this project so much, in fact, that in April, I helped to secure $500,000 in Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program funding for the construction of the business park.
During a time when many businesses are downsizing, Jackson Township and the state are investing in our business community and boosting the local economy, but this land swap is key for development of the park.
I hope that area residents recognize the benefits of the business park project and will express their support by contacting the Pennsylvania Bureau of Forestry at (717) 787-4837.
Sincerely,
Frank Burns
