Haluska: Cresson Township receiving $800,000 loan

CRESSON TOWNSHIP, April 15 – State Rep. Gary Haluska, D-Cambria, announced today that Cresson Township will be expanding its water supply infrastructure with an $800,000 state loan.

Cresson Township's water system has experienced operational and maintenance problems in recent years, and its capacity is no longer able to keep up with demand for its customers.

Haluska said the state today approved a 20-year $800,000 low-interest loan to help the township overhaul its water system.

"With this low-interest loan, Cresson Township will be able to complete a $2.7 million expansion of its water storage capacity and install roughly 11,000 feet of water lines," Haluska said. "Once the project is complete, the township's water customers will have a more reliable and sustainable water supply."

The project is also being funded by $1.9 million from the state Department of Corrections.

Haluska said the loan is being provided by the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority – known as Pennvest – through its Clean Water State Revolving Fund loan program. Pennvest was created by the General Assembly in 1988 under the late Gov. Robert Casey.

Pennvest offers low-cost loans and grants to communities throughout Pennsylvania to fund sewer, storm water and drinking water maintenance and improvement projects that improve the environment, create jobs, and protect the health of citizens.
