Drag racing and muscle cars, local champions coming to Harrisburg
HARRISBURG, May 22 – State Reps. Gary Haluska, D-Cambria, and John Payne, R-Dauphin, announced today that there will be a special drag racing and muscle car event at the state Capitol on Tuesday, June 10.
Haluska and Payne are both leaders of the Pennsylvania Motorsports Caucus, a bipartisan group of state lawmakers with an interest in Pennsylvania's motorsports industry. The caucus is sponsoring the event in coordination with industry promoters to bring an array of legendary race cars, as well as 60's and 70's-era muscle cars, to the Capitol for this special public event.
"Pennsylvania has long been a stepping stone for outstanding racing talent, giving our state great enjoyment and pride for decades," Haluska said.
"On June 10, we're excited to bring a large selection of not only drag racing and muscle cars, but the very legends who call Pennsylvania home," Payne said.
Several Pennsylvania drag racing legends will be in attendance, including:
· Bud Faubel of Chambersburg, Chrysler Factory Race Team member and repeat champion;
· Bruce Larson of Dauphin, 1989 National Hot Rod Association World Funny Car champion;
· Ken Montgomery of Jenkintown, multi-national event champion;
· Jere Stahl of York, champion of every stock eliminator national event in 1966.
Other participants will be added to the elite group who will be introduced to state legislators on the House floor during the event. Displays will include Musclecar Madness at the York Reunion, the York Nostalgia Nationals at Beaver Springs and other industry-related displays.
The June 10 event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Commonwealth Avenue side of the state Capitol in Harrisburg. The public is welcome to attend at no charge.
