Cambria County awarded grant for recycling coordinator

HARRISBURG, June 18 – State Rep. Gary Haluska, D-Cambria, announced today that the Cambria County Solid Waste Authority will receive a state grant worth $34,867.

Haluska said the grant was awarded under the state's County Recycling Coordinator Grant Program, which reimburses counties for 50 percent of the cost of their recycling coordinators' salary and other expenses.

"The county recycling coordinator plays a very important role in organizing, administering and finding funding for the county's overall recycling efforts, including activities such as tire and electronics recycling drop offs and household hazardous waste collection events," Haluska said. "None of these efforts, which are helping to protect the environment, reduce waste and boost the economy, would be possible without the coordinator's work throughout the year.

"These state grants make it possible for counties like Cambria to employ recycling coordinators."

County recycling coordinator grants are awarded by the state Department of Environmental Protection.
