Cambria County SWA to receive $24,000 for recycling program

HARRISBURG, July 25 - State Rep. Gary Haluska, D-Cambria, announced today that the Cambria County Solid Waste Authority has been awarded a state grant for its recycling program.

The authority will receive $23,896 for recycling 3,151 tons of waste in 2006. The grant is provided in addition to funds that the state's Department of Environmental Protection allocates to municipalities to encourage the establishment and maintenance of recycling programs.

"Recycling is essential if we are to continue reaping its benefits and enjoying its luxuries for generations to come," Haluska said. "This grant is to reward all of Cambria County for its contribution to a program that is vital to our future."

The grant was provided through the Recycling Performance Grant Program, an incentive started in 1988 to increase the amount of materials recovered through recycling and promote economic growth in the Commonwealth through job creation and market expansion.
