Haluska announces $36,500 state grant for Stoltz Pond improvements
HARRISBURG, Dec. 15 – State Rep. Gary Haluska announced today that Carrolltown has been awarded a $36,500 state grant for the development of and improvements at Stoltz Pond.
Haluska said the improvements will include construction of a pedestrian walkway, bridge and parking; the installation of utilities; access for people with disabilities; landscaping; and project signs.
The funding was awarded under the state’s Community Conservation Partnerships Program.
“This is an important source of money that local governments can use to update and make more accessible the parks, recreation areas and open spaces that make our communities better places to live,” Haluska said. “Without this program, many communities currently could not afford to keep their playgrounds updated and safe, or protect open spaces and other recreational areas.”
The Community Conservation Partnerships Program, sometimes known as C2P2, uses funding from a variety of state sources, including the Keystone Recreation, Park and Conservation Fund (Key ’93); the Environmental Stewardship and Watershed Protection Act (Growing Greener); the Act 68 Snowmobile and ATV Trails Fund; the federal Land and Water Conservation Fund; and the Recreational Trails component of federal transportation funding programs.
Grants are available to local governments, municipal authorities, and nonprofit organizations for community and regional recreation and conservation projects. The $36,500 grant for Carrolltown was part of $31.5 million awarded for more than 200 conservation and recreation projects across the state.
