Rep. George: Free Swine Flu shots available Friday and Saturday

HARRISBURG, Jan. 5 – State Rep. Camille "Bud" George, D-74 of Clearfield County, is urging residents to make appointments for free H1N1 flu vaccinations available Jan. 8 and 9 at the Clearfield Fairgrounds.

"A third wave of Swine Flu is expected, and vaccinations are the best way to guard against this dangerous illness," Rep. George said. "Folks should not let their guard down."

The H1N1 vaccinations will be offered by the state Health Department from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday in the Expo II Building at the fairgrounds. All are welcome but appointments are required.

Free immunizations also are being offered Friday and Saturday at Indiana University of Pennsylvania; Brookville Hospital, Jefferson County; Georgian Place Shopping & Office Village, Somerset; and Calvary Church, Huntingdon.

Appointments may be made online at www.H1N1inPA.com under "What’s Hot." H1N1 vaccine consent forms must be completed and are available on the Web site.

Limited phone lines are available during business hours for those without Internet access and wanting to schedule an appointment. The toll-free number is (1) 877 724-3258.

Children under age 10 require a second dose of the vaccine, preferably between 21 and 28 days after the first dose. Parents should contact the provider of the initial dose or the county health department at 765-0542 to schedule an appointment.

Priority groups are especially urged to be vaccinated against H1N1. They are:

● Pregnant women;

● People 6 months to 24 years old;

● Health care providers and emergency services personnel;

● Household members and caregivers of children under 6 months old;

● People under age 65 with specific medical conditions.
