Glen Hope firm to reclaim abandoned mine near Brisbin

HARRISBURG, Oct. 8 – State Rep. Camille "Bud" George, D-74 of Clearfield County, today said the state Department of Environmental Protection has awarded a contract to R.H. Dotts Energy of Glen Hope to remediate an abandoned mine in Woodward Twp. at no cost to taxpayers.

The 3.15-acre mine, situated just northwest of Brisbin, was abandoned in the early 1950s by the Dean Coal Co.

Rep. George said R.H. Dotts will reclaim and regrade the site in return for extracting about 5,400 tons of coal. The reclamation work, which entails extensive deep-mine subsidence, is valued at $16,200.

Blasting and refuse reprocessing are prohibited at the site.
