Surra announces sewage grant for St. Marys

HARRISBURG, April 11 – State Rep. Dan Surra, D-Elk/Clearfield, announced today that St. Marys will receive a state sewage facilities enforcement grant.

Surra said the $1,944 grant will reimburse the city for half the cost of inspecting and permitting on-lot septic systems in the city. The grants are awarded by the state Department of Environmental Protection to ensure that on-lot systems are properly installed, functioning and permitted.

The Sewage Facilities Enforcement Grant program was created by the General Assembly in 1966 as part of a law requiring municipalities to routinely update, inspect and maintain both public and private sewage systems to protect the environment and ensure public health.
