Surra announces $5,100 grant for Elk County Council on the Arts
HARRISBURG, Aug. 5 – State Rep. Dan Surra, D-Elk/Clearfield, announced today that a state grant for $5,100 will soon be awarded to the Elk County Council on the Arts.
The funding comes from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, and is in support of the local council on the arts and the various programs and services it provides to area artists and the public.
"The Elk County Council on the Arts is one of the most active arts councils in the state," Surra said. "It has been extremely successful in getting local artists the exposure they need for their work, introducing the arts in their variety of forms to the public, and giving residents of Elk County the chance to have hands-on experiences with the arts by supporting a number of arts-related programs and classes."
Surra said grants from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts help to keep the arts alive in communities across Pennsylvania, particularly in rural areas where access to artistic programs, performances and educational opportunities is often limited.
The Pennsylvania Council on the Arts is a state agency under the Office of the Governor. It is administered by 15 private residents and four legislators. Information on grant programs available through the council can be found online at www.pacouncilonthearts.org.
