Surra announces local sewage enforcement grants
HARRISBURG, Sept. 29 – State Rep. Dan Surra, D-Elk/Clearfield, announced today that state sewage enforcement grants have been awarded to the Clearfield County Sewage Committee and two Elk County municipalities.
The grants will reimburse these local governments for 50 percent of the cost of performing the sewage inspection, permitting and enforcement duties required under state law.
The grants awarded are as follows:
· Clearfield County Sewage Committee -- $22,459
· Jay Township, Elk County -- $968
· Fox Township, Elk County -- $717
Pennsylvania’s 1966 Sewage Facilities law requires local governments and agencies to administer an inspection and permitting program for the installation, repair or extension of on-lot septic systems. The grant program, administered by the Department of Environmental Protection, helps municipalities cover the cost of establishing uniform standards for these systems and preventing public health and environmental problems that can result from substandard or malfunctioning systems.
