Hanna announces grant funds for Clinton, Centre authorities
HARRISBURG, Jan. 29 – State Rep. Mike Hanna, D-Clinton/Centre, chairman of the House Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee, announced today that the Clinton and Centre County Solid Waste authorities will receive more than $19,000 in state grants from the state Department of Environmental Protection.
Hanna said both authorities will be reimbursed 50 percent of the costs for developing and operating household hazardous waste collection events. He said HHW includes such items as old paints and paint-related products, pesticides, pool chemicals, drain cleaners and some electronics.
"Each person in Pennsylvania produces an average of four pounds of household hazardous waste each year or about 25,000 tons per year," Hanna said. "If these products are managed carelessly, they can, and frequently do, create environmental and public health hazards."
The Clinton County Solid Waste Authority will receive $15,959 to cover part of the costs of two HHW collections held last year. The Centre County Solid Waste Authority will receive $3,645 to cover part of the costs of a collection it held last year.
The grants are funded by the state DEP under the Pennsylvania Small Business and Household Pollution Prevention Grant Program of Act 190 of 1996.
