Hanna announces grant for Snow Shoe Township

HARRISBURG, Feb. 5 – State Rep. Mike Hanna, D-Clinton/Centre, chairman of the House Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee, announced today that Snow Shoe Township in Centre County has been awarded a $16,000 grant from the state Department of Environmental Protection.

The grant, which is funded through the state's Stream Improvement Program, will be used to remove two stone culverts conveying a tributary to the North Branch of Beech Creek under Flatt Street. Hanna said these culverts are part of an abandoned railroad grade and are in danger of collapsing. Should the culverts completely collapse, they would pose both a public safety and flooding hazard.

"The safety of our residents is my primary concern, and I am glad that this project has received the funds necessary to protect those who live in the immediate area of Flatt Street," Hanna said.
