House adopts resolution to recognize Pa. Farm Bureau

HARRISBURG, March 10 – The state House today unanimously adopted a resolution designating March 23, 2010, as "Pennsylvania Farm Bureau Day."

The resolution (H.R. 643) was introduced by state Rep. Mike Hanna, D-Clinton/Centre, chairman of the House Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee.

"Agriculture is Pennsylvania's number one industry, and it is important that we recognize the important role the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau plays in Pennsylvania's economic welfare," Hanna said.

"This group is the voice for its members in the Pennsylvania General Assembly and U.S. Congress, and we want them to know that we are listening to their ideas and concerns on such issues as farmland preservation, commodity pricing, property tax reduction, Sunday hunting, water rights and wildlife management and many others," he added.

Hanna said the bureau, which was created 60 years ago, represents more than 46,697 farm and rural families throughout Pennsylvania.
