Hanna announces sewage grants for Centre, Clinton county municipalities

HARRISBURG, March 19 – State Rep. Mike Hanna, D-Clinton/Centre, announced today that the state Department of Environmental Protection has awarded more than $1,400 in grant funds to four municipalities in Centre and Clinton counties.

Hanna said the grants are made available through the state's Sewage Facilities Planning Grant Program, which reimburses municipalities that proactively correct existing sewage disposal problems and implement plans to prevent future problems.

The funds will be distributed locally as follows:

·         $518 to Howard Township, Centre County

·         $510 to Chapman Township, Clinton County

·         $265 to Liberty Township, Centre County

·         $170 to Lamar Township, Clinton County

This grant program was established in 1966 as part of a law that requires municipalities to develop and implement an official sewage plan that addresses present and future sewage disposal needs. The state DEP reviews and approves the official plans and any subsequent revisions.
