Hanna: Local homeowners to receive property tax relief

HARRISBURG, May 8 – State Rep. Mike Hanna, D-Clinton/Centre, announced that area homeowners will receive school property tax relief this summer from the state’s slots-funded Property Tax Relief Fund.

Estimates of property tax reductions in each Pennsylvania school district were recently made available by the state Department of Education. According to DOE, area homeowners will receive the following estimated relief:

Bald Eagle Area -- $187

Bellefonte Area -- $203

Penns Valley -- $163

"This is great news for area homeowners," Hanna said. "I supported this plan from day one and I am happy to see the initial distribution coming this summer, with more relief on the horizon as current  and pending slot gaming facilities continue to draw in revenue."

The property tax reduction will be reflected on this summer’s school property tax bill.

Hanna said the tax relief provided by slots funds will be in addition to relief provided to senior citizen and other qualifying homeowners through the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program. He reminded residents that June 30 is the deadline to apply for the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program, which provides income-qualifying senior citizens 65 or older, widows and widowers 50 or older, and people with disabilities who are 18 or older with rebates on their rent or property taxes.

Residents may call Hanna’s Lock Haven office at 570-748-5480 or Milesburg office at 814-353-8780 for assistance with applying for the program.
