Local school district receiving $165,458 'Classrooms for the Future' grant
HARRISBURG, Aug. 6 -- State Rep. Mike Hanna, D-Clinton/Centre, announced that Bellefonte Area School District will receive $165,458 in grant funding through the state "Classrooms for the Future" program.
The program provides funding for school districts to purchase laptop computers, high-speed Internet access and state-of-the-art software for high school math, science, English and social studies classrooms. It also includes funding for professional development to help train teachers on the equipment. "Classrooms for the Future incorporates real-world technology into lessons to help students prepare for the workplace," Hanna said. Hanna said educators who have used the program in their classrooms have reported increased student attendance and participation. The program has reached 350,000 students across the state in its first two years and will place 140,000 laptops in high school classrooms this year.
