Hanna: Bond issue on fall ballot could help local sewer and water systems
HARRISBURG, Oct. 2 – State Rep. Mike Hanna, D-Clinton/Centre, said a referendum on the November ballot will ask Pennsylvania residents to approve a $400 million bond issue for improving the state's water and sewer systems.
Act 64 of 2008 authorized the referendum on the ballot as part of Rebuild Pennsylvania, a state budget initiative that provides a combination of federal and state funds to make repairs to the state's infrastructure, including bridges, dams, aviation, rail transportation, drinking water and wastewater facilities.
Hanna said while the initial funding will pay for some repairs and upgrades this year, the $400 million bond is needed to sustain those efforts.
"If the bond issue is approved, it would benefit almost every municipality in Clinton County," Hanna said. "Local municipalities desperately need upgrades to their water and sewer infrastructure, and the bond issue would help provide the funding needed to get it done."
