Hanna announces $2 million in funding for Durrwachter Conference Center

HARRISBURG, Oct. 30 – State Rep. Mike Hanna, D-Clinton/Centre, helped to secure $2 million in redevelopment assistance funding for the Durrwachter Conference Center in Lock Haven through the state's capital budget fund.

Hanna, who worked to ensure that the grant was on the list of projects selected for funding, said the construction of the center resulted from a partnership between the city and the Lock Haven University Foundation to build a structure that could accommodate business conferences, seminars and other events, and complement the new hotel and restaurants that were already being built at the former site of Painter Stadium.

"I'm proud to have been able to successfully make a case to the governor for funding this important project that will be very beneficial to the area," Hanna said. "The center is going to anchor nearby businesses and bring in more dollars for the city and the university."

He said the center would also serve as an anchor for the proposed pedestrian parkway that would link the university to downtown Lock Haven.

Separate from the state’s General Fund budget, the capital budget is adopted every few years to include projects for the construction, renovation, improvement and acquisition of buildings, structures, facilities, land or land rights. Projects must have an estimated useful life in excess of five years and an estimated cost of more than $100,000.

The state-of-the-art conference center celebrated its grand opening in January 2008. In addition to conference and meeting space, it houses the departments of Alumni Relations, Development, Admissions and the Lock Haven University Foundation.
