Conklin calls on students to submit 2010-11 financial aid form
STATE COLLEGE, Jan. 14 – Centre County state Rep. Scott Conklin is reminding students and their families to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA, as soon as possible to ensure they are considered for a variety of financial aid resources.
"Even though this is for the 2010-11 school year, now is the time to find out which federal and state grants you may qualify for," Conklin said.
Conklin said information from the FAFSA is used to determine eligibility for federal grants, the Pennsylvania State Grant program, scholarships, reduced-cost federal loans, work-study programs, and many school-based scholarships and financial aid programs. While the deadline to submit the FAFSA for most students seeking a State Grant is May 1, individual schools and scholarship programs often have different application deadlines.
"There is a lot of paperwork associated with all of the different types of student aid available, but this one is at the top of the list," said Conklin. "And by filling it out online, you cut down on mailing time and it speeds up the processing time."
Students and families can find more information about the FAFSA, as well as overviews, preparation worksheets and the online application, at www.PHEAA.org/FAFSA. The Web site also offers a list of FAFSA-completion information that will be needed in order to submit a complete application.
