Centre County receives conservation grant
STATE COLLEGE, Feb. 2 – State Rep. Scott Conklin, D-Centre, announced today that Centre County will be awarded $57,000 in state funding from the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
Conklin said the grant will be awarded to the Susquehanna Economic Development Association-Council of Governments for TreeVitalize Metros to implement a tree cover program in Centre County.
The funding is administered through the department's Community Conservation Partnerships Program. The purpose of the program is to help local governments fund recreation, conservation and greenways projects.
"In Centre County, the focus of this grant is to purchase and plant trees throughout publicly owned properties," Conklin said. "Trees directly benefit our environment by improving air quality, conserving water and providing shelter for wildlife.
"Not to mention, they add to the beauty of our surroundings and complement our parks and other places shared by local communities."
