Conklin: Philipsburg to receive $27,000 in sewage facilities funding
STATE COLLEGE, June 12 – Centre County state Rep. Scott Conklin announced that the borough of Philipsburg has been awarded more than $27,000 in state sewage facilities funding.
Conklin said the $27,168 in state funding, allocated through the Department of Environment Protection's Sewage Facilities Planning Grants program, will reimburse Philipsburg for 50 percent of the cost the borough incurred when preparing and revising its official sewage plan required by state law.
"Providing strong and adequate sewage management is critical to the health and welfare of Philipsburg residents," Conklin said. "Reimbursement for a large portion of the costs associated with developing a quality sewage program will help the borough and many municipalities like Philipsburg to afford systems that are beneficial to their citizens."
The Sewage Facilities Planning Grant program was created by the General Assembly in 1967 to correct existing sewage disposal problems and to prevent future sewage disposal problems across the Commonwealth. The program requires municipalities, municipal authorities and county governments to plan for their sewage needs by updating plans for their communities.
