Port Matilda to receive $1.5 million for sewer project

HARRISBURG, July 21 – State Rep. Scott Conklin, D-Centre, today announced Port Matilda Borough will receive $1.5 million in a low-interest loan from the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority for local sewage improvements.

Conklin said the loan will be used to construct 11,000 feet of low-pressure sewer lines along the Route 220 corridor in Worth Township.

Fifty-two percent of the on-lot systems are malfunctioning, with more than 12 percent identified as contaminated private wells.

"The funding from Pennvest will help Port Matilda improve its sanitary conditions by eliminating discharges of untreated waste water into Sunnyside Hollow," Conklin said.

An independent agency of the Commonwealth, Pennvest provides financial assistance to owners and operators of substandard and deteriorated sewer and water systems throughout the state. It carries the borrowing authority of more than $1 billion in state and federal funds, along with proceeds from general obligation bonds and interest payments on its loans.

Projects funded by Pennvest also improve opportunities for economic growth and create jobs for Pennsylvania's workers. The Port Matilda project will create an estimated 10 construction-related jobs.
