Conklin office hours extended to help citizens with Property Tax/Rent Rebate applications
PHILIPSBURG, Nov. 30 – Centre County state Rep. Scott Conklin has extended the hours of his Philipsburg constituent service office to further assist seniors and others who qualify for property tax relief in applying for the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program before the Dec. 31 deadline.
The extended office hours will be from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3 at Conklin’s Philipsburg office located at 209 E. Presqueisle St.
“With the deadline for this program approaching quickly, I felt it necessary to extend my office hours on Monday so we can focus on getting people registered so they can get the rebates they deserve,” Conklin said. “By extending my office hours, we can reach out to more people and provide assistance with the applications and answer any question that you may have. Let us help cut through the red tape and make sure that you get your rebate.”
Conklin said that estimates show there are still more than 1,160 citizens in Centre County eligible for the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program.
“We have over a thousand people in Centre County who could be getting a check from the state for as much as $650 but they just don’t know that the money is waiting there to be collected or don’t know where to turn for help with the application,” Conklin said. “I encourage anyone who thinks that they may be eligible to contact my office and find out. We are here to help.”
To qualify for the program, residents must be 65 or older, 50 or older and widowed, or 18 or older with a permanent disability. The program is funded by the state lottery, not tax dollars.
When determining income eligibility, Conklin said that seniors only have to include half of their Social Security income. Under the expanded eligibility guidelines, homeowners making up to $35,000 and renters with an income of $15,000 or less can receive up to $650 back from the state.
Last year’s participants should have already received this year's application in the mail; people who have not applied before or those who need help with their applications should contact Conklin’s constituent service office in Philipsburg at 814-342-4872.
