Mirabito announces $128,000-plus recycling grant for Williamsport

WILLIAMSPORT, Feb. 17 – State Rep. Rick Mirabito, D-Lycoming, announced today that Williamsport will receive a $128,821 Recycling Development and Implementation Grant from the state to help with its yard waste program.

"The Recycling Development and Implementation Grant Program is funded through the $2-per-ton tipping fee on all landfilled materials in the state," Mirabito said. "By returning a portion of this fee to local communities, we help to encourage and expand recycling programs that protect our environment and create jobs."

Mirabito noted that there are more than 3,000 recycling and reuse establishments in Pennsylvania that provide over 81,000 jobs and contribute $305 million in taxes annually to the General Fund.

The Recycling Development and Implementation Grant Program, which is administered through the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, provides grants to reimburse counties and municipalities for 90 percent of eligible recycling program development and implementation expenses.

More information about Pennsylvania’s recycling efforts is available online at www.depweb.state.pa.us.
