Dec. 31 Deadline for Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program
Dec. 15 - The deadline for the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program is quickly approaching.
The program provides state rebates on property taxes or rent paid in 2010 to eligible Pennsylvanians age 65 or older; widows and widowers age 50 or older; and people with disabilities age 18 or older. The income limit is $35,000 a year for homeowners and $15,000 annually for renters. Half of Social Security, Supplemental Security, or federal Railroad Retirement Tier I income may be excluded.
The maximum standard rebate is $650, but supplemental rebates for qualifying homeowners can boost rebates to $975.
The deadline to apply for a rebate is Dec. 31, 2011. All residents who received rebates last year should have received application forms in the mail.
Application forms are available at my office located at 800 W. Fourth St., Suite G-02, Williamsport. My staff is available to assist constituents who need help completing the forms. Applications are also available online.
Last year 603,098 homeowners and renters across the state received more than $281 million in property tax and rent rebates as a result of this program. I encourage all area residents who believe they may be eligible to apply for the rebate.
