Mirabito: Local trail project to receive upgrades with $40,000 state grant
HARRISBURG, Dec. 15 – State Rep. Rick Mirabito, D-Lycoming, said today that a project to maintain trails through Lycoming and Sullivan counties has been awarded a grant through the Community Conservation Partnerships Program.
"Congratulations are in order to the people who have worked so hard to secure the grants through the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources," Mirabito said. "The investment in the local communities is designed to protect natural resources and help to revitalize communities."
Mirabito said that among the projects designated to receive the grants is a project through the Bureau of Forestry to purchase maintenance equipment to construct and maintain approximately 140 miles of trails. The grant totals $40,000.
The DCNR grant program combines several funding sources into one grant program. Funding comes from DCNR's Keystone Fund, which is generated from a portion of the realty transfer tax, the Environmental Stewardship Fund, the ATV/Snowmobile Fund, generated through fees for licenses, and federal funds.
Grants are available to local governments, municipal authorities, and nonprofit organizations for community and regional recreation and conservation projects. The $40,000 grant for the trails was part of $31.5 million awarded for more than 200 conservation and recreation projects across the state.
