Belfanti announces state grants for local sewage enforcement
HARRISBURG, Sept. 9 – State Rep. Robert E. Belfanti Jr. announced today that state sewage facilities enforcement grants will be awarded to three area municipalities.
Belfanti said the grants will help pay for efforts by the municipalities to ensure that on-lot sewage systems are permitted and functioning properly.
The grant amounts are as follows:
· Ralpho Township, Northumberland County -- $3,555
· Valley Township, Montour County -- $1,661
· Cooper Township, Montour County -- $2,124
The grants were awarded under the Sewage Facilities Enforcement Grant program administered by the state Department of Environmental Protection. The grant represents a 50 percent reimbursement by the state for the township's cost of enforcing the state's sewage laws, which require proper planning, inspection and permitting of sewage facilities and on-lot disposal systems.
