DePasquale: Northwest Triangle project receives $1 million

for environmental assessment, remediation activities

YORK, March 26 – During a news conference today, state Rep. Eugene DePasquale, D-York, welcomed $1 million in state grants for the Northwest Triangle, York's largest redevelopment effort.

DePasquale was joined by Mayor John Brenner, representatives from the York Economic Development and Redevelopment Authority, and state Department of Environmental Protection Secretary Kathleen McGinty.

DePasquale said the funding, allocated by DEP for environmental assessment and remediation activities, is critical to the completion of the Northwest Triangle project. Covering 29 acres in York City's northwest corner, the project is designed to convert an underused industrial district into a mix of businesses and residential homes. DePasquale said the funding will help officials assess the property and address any environmental damage that may have occurred over the years.

"The Northwest Triangle is a major component of York's revitalization and redevelopment plan, and this funding will help us move the project along," DePasquale said. "Since the property has been used as an industrial site for several years, it is very important that we take a look and clean up any environmental hazards that could be present before we build residential communities on the property."

DePasquale has been working with city and state officials to help secure funding that is vital to the completion of the Northwest Triangle project. He said the DEP grant awarded today is another example of how local and state officials can work together to achieve a common goal.

"This project is extremely important to the city of York and I am pleased to have played a part in securing this funding so that we can move forward with the plan to add businesses and homes for city residents," DePasquale said. "The collaboration among city officials, state agencies and the legislature is strong and I look forward to building upon this relationship and continuing to secure state funding to help revitalize the city of York."
