DePasquale bill would include PSU, others, under open records law

HARRISBURG, Nov. 14 – State Rep. Eugene DePasquale, D-York, said he plans to author legislation that would remove the exemption for state-related universities from Pennsylvania's Right-To-Know Law.

"In the wake of the recent allegations revolving around Penn State, I find it imperative that the open records law be amended to include state-related institutions under its purview," DePasquale said. "As members of the General Assembly, we must hold entities affiliated with the Commonwealth accountable for their actions and ensure that the activities of those associated with these organizations are legal, ethical and moral."

DePasquale said his bill would add Pennsylvania State University, Temple University, the University of Pittsburgh and Lincoln University to the organizations that must abide by the guidelines for Commonwealth agencies set forth under Pa.'s Right-To-Know Law.

"This legislation will further our mission of providing the public with transparency and will allow us to monitor not only the actions of Pennsylvania government, but also those organizations affiliated with it. As legislators, we must protect the interests of our fellow Pennsylvanians and their investment in our future," DePasquale said.
