Majority Policy Committee examines state transportation
and infrastructure issues
SACRAMENTO, Jan. 13 – The House Majority Policy Committee held a public hearing in Sacramento, Schuylkill County, today to look at transportation and infrastructure issues in Pennsylvania, said committee Chairman Mike Sturla, D-Lancaster.
The hearing was requested and co-chaired by state Rep. Tim Seip, D-Schuylkill/Berks.
"The state's aging transportation infrastructure is posing an enormous challenge for Pennsylvania residents and for the state's budget," Sturla said. "Representative Seip has been a leader at bringing issues like these to the forefront and at keeping his local residents involved in the discussion. I applaud him for bringing the Policy Committee to Schuylkill County to examine this issue closely."
Seip noted that his district serves as a good example of some of the issues that are troubling the Commonwealth.
"While this hearing looked at the broad issue of Pennsylvania's transportation and infrastructure, it was also a great opportunity for the members and the Transportation Committee chairman to hear about important infrastructure issues and state roadways, like Routes 25 and 209, confronting rural districts."
House Transportation Committee Chairman Joe Markosek, D-Allegheny, was also in attendance and said, "As chairman of the Transportation Committee I recognize the daunting task ahead of us to secure our state's roadways. Representative Seip has been very aggressive in his pursuit to bring transportation dollars back to his district. This hearing was a good opportunity for the committee to see the kind of issues we're tackling in Pennsylvania."
Those testifying included Ronald Dietz, Stick Drive With Road Study; Mark Pishock, sales manager, Northeast Prestressed Products LLC; Mike Reibert, district executive 5-0, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation; a panel from the Northeastern Pennsylvania Alliance, including Alan Baranski, vice president of community and government services, and Kurt Bauman, government services manager.
